Last Updated on May 18, 2022 by Kroeger Funeral Home

Carolyn (St. Clair) Baker Hardebeck, 77, passed away at home on May 14, 2022, after a courageous fight against breast cancer.

Carolyn was born November 22, 1944, and grew up on the St. Clair family farm in Kewanna. She graduated from Caston High School in 1962.

Carolyn married Ed Baker on December 27, 1964, and they settled in Logansport where she was a stay at home mom and raised their 2 children. She later had a 10 year career with CVS.

Carolyn was a fixture at the Cass County 4-H Fairgrounds for years. She could be found supporting her own children, nieces, nephews and friends in the show rings and barns and loved to stroll through the “junk barns” for all the goodies. Carolyn and Ed were honored with the Friends of 4H Award and served on the Cass Co Beef Association board.

She shared her talents for feeding hungry bellies by working in the 4-H kitchen. Carolyn also made homemade Angel Food Cakes, Egg Noodles, Cinnamon Rolls, Apple Dumplings and rolled thousands of Peanut Butter Balls. If you were lucky enough to enjoy her confections then you know what a gift she had.

Outside of her kitchen, it was common for Carolyn to ask to look at any quarters you might have in your pocket or purse. Always on the hunt for the latest released state quarter she would happily buy it off you to add to her collections. Another important hobby of hers was collecting family history and genealogy into “family books.” She was the a master of remembering important dates and numbers.

After Ed passed in 1999, Carolyn met and married Dave Hardebeck in 2003. She split her time between Logansport and Dave’s farm in Tipton. She was always a supportive spouse, helping with farm chores, visiting auctions, and farming events.

She returned to Logansport full-time in 2013 and spent her days baking for friends and family, traveling, and keeping up with her grandchildren in Indiana and Texas.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Fred (Susan) Baker, Texas, Mary (Rick) Southwell, Logansport; her grandchildren, Megan (Ethan) Yoder, Nicholas Baker and William Baker and her great granddaughter Norah Yoder. She is also survived by her sister, Edith (Carl) Sell, brother, Joe St. Clair, many nieces and nephews, bonus grandchildren Paul (Katie) Powell and bonus great grandchildren Evan, Ellie and Emma.

Carolyn is preceded in death by husbands, Ed Baker and Dave Hardebeck; her parents Edgar and Mary St. Clair, her sister, Phyllis Hauser, brother-in-law, Danny Hauser, and sister-in-law, Judy St. Clair.
