Wilbur H. Trinen, 99, of Logansport, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022, at the McKinney Place in Logansport.
Born on January 15, 1923, in Schereville, Indiana, Wilbur is the son of the late Charles John and Teresa Rose (Shumacher) Trinen. On June 26, 1948 Wilbur married Jean Alice Girton who survives. They would have celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this year.
Wilbur was a 1941 graduate of Logansport High School. Upon graduating, Wilbur enlisted in the United States Army, serving during World War II with the 29th Engineer Battalion, as a draftsman topographic, where he worked with aerial photographs and other topographical data, to prepare and finish maps for production. His Platoon of the 648 Engineers, provided three dimensional mapping of the Pacific Islands.
After his service to his country overseas, he returned and became an instructor and Captain with the Civil Air Patrol at Grissom Airforce Base.
Wilbur worked as a machinist for Logansport Machine Company, Essex International and Small Parts. Along with partners, he started Co-Tronics in 1972 and retired in 1993 as President and GM of operations. While at Co-Tronics he helped design, develop, and deliver parts for NASA.
Wilbur was a tooling designer and actually patented an early prototype of the “speed cruise control” called the Speedomatic, which he hand delivered to Ford.
Wilbur had many affiliations around the Logansport area, including the Cass County Historical Society, serving for over 30 years at the Logansport Airport. He is a 50-year member of the Cass County Y, where you could find him swimming laps up until the age of 93. Wilbur was a devote Catholic, being very active in the St. Vincent Schools and Church in Logansport. He is a 61 year member of the VFW Post 60 and American Legion Post 3790.
Wilbur had a hand in many things in the Logansport area, things that some people may never know about. He never looked to be compensated for any of his volunteering, he just wanted Logansport to be a better place for those left after his passing.
Surviving along with his wife Jeane, are two daughters, Rebecca E. (Larry) Lueckenhoff of Jefferson City, MO; Janice L. Johnson of Phoenix, AZ; a son, Roger B. Trinen of Oak Harbor, Washington; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Mary-Theresia (Dick) Bash of Mexico, IN; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a two sisters, Florence Trinen and Mildred Logan; and a young infant brother.
Wilbur will be laid to rest with Full Military Rites at Mount Hope Cemetery in Logansport at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 24, 2022.
