Irene Hayden James

Irene James, 92, of rural Logansport/Lake Cicott area, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 20, 2022, in her home surrounded by her family.

Born October 15, 1929, in Delphi, she was the daughter of the late David and Katherine (Widner) Hayden. Her father died when she was young, and her mother married Russell Budd. They blended to become a beautiful family, with Irene surviving her two sisters, one brother and nine stepsiblings.

On June 9, 1946, in Winamac, she was married to Ralph “Buck” James, who preceded her in death December 25, 1990.

A 74-year resident of Adams Township in Carroll County, Irene was a homemaker. Working alongside her husband and son, she loved being a farm wife for many years.

In addition to her longtime membership at Lockport Church, Irene’s deep faith and abiding love for her Lord was her source of strength all the days of her life. Irene was dearly loved and respected by all of her family. She was a kind and caring person to everyone – always ready to have a cup of coffee with a visitor. No one ever left her kitchen hungry.

Surviving with four daughters and three sons-in-law, Linda & Steve Temple of Logansport, Sandra Kistler of Camden, Teresa & Michael Long of Burnettsville, and Pamela & Jeff Duncan of Logansport; twelve grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; and seventeen great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her son, Steven Floyd James, on December 24, 2012, and her son-in-law, Joe Kistler on December 25, 2021.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 23 in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

A Funeral Service celebrating Irene’s life will follow at noon in the funeral chapel with Pastor Nord Zootman officiating.

Interment will follow in the Seceder Cemetery, not far from Irene’s home.
