Jack Gordon Sample

Jack Gordon Sample, 93, of Logansport, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 26, 2022, in the Woodbridge Health Campus with his family by his side.

Born March 15, 1929, in Boone County, Indiana, he was the son of the late Roy Sample and Elsie (Fine) Sample

As a young teen Jack started working for Ernie Yoder at Pleasant Hill Greenhouse in 1942. He graduated from Logansport High School in 1947 and went on to study floral design in Chicago, graduating from the American Floral Arts School in 1949. Jack and Rita purchased the Pleasant Hill Greenhouse in 1974 and worked there together for 25 years.

On August 26, 1950, in the Ninth Street Christian Church, Jack was married to Rita Ann (Meyers) Sample, who survives. The couple was introduced by Rita’s cousin, Glenn Mather. Jack proposed to Rita at Riverside Park, and they were married for 72 years.

Jack was a faithful member of the Baptist Temple for many years, serving as both a Deacon and a Trustee. He was a charter member of the Logansport Breakfast Exchange Club. He was a loving family man, a successful businessman, and a committed member of his community, serving as a Cass County Republican Councilman for the second District.

Surviving with his wife, Rita, are their children: Sam (Pam) Sample, Michael (Jhani) Sample, Sue Ann (Tim) Specht, all of Indianapolis, and Mary Elizabeth Sample, of Logansport; six grandchidlren, Brad (Kim) Sample, Alison( Fred) Sample, Loren Sample, Andrew (Hannah) Sample, James (Jaclyn) Sample, Greg (Britt) Specht and Abigail Specht and seven great-grandchildren.

The family expresses its sincere thanks to the staff at Woodbridge Health Campus for Jack’s care the last couple of years.

A Funeral Service celebrating Jack’s life will be held at 2 p.m on July 30, 2022, in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Dawn Fisher officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
