David Merrill Gaby

David Merrill Gaby, 71, Logansport, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2022, in the Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne following a 3-week hospital stay.

Born January 28, 1951, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Russell and Audrey (Weaver) Gaby.

On December 26, 1983, in Logansport, he was married to Cynthia R. (Walker) Gaby, who survives.

Dave was a 1969 graduate of Logansport High School. A hard worker, he had been employed with Exide and Trelleborg before beginning a career as a correctional officer at the Miami Correctional Facility. He retired in 2017 after 10 years of service.

The “rock” of his family, Dave loved his family and he especially enjoyed the title of “Papa.” When his children were growing up, he was “Coach” to more than just his own kids when it came to softball. He thoroughly enjoyed being active in all of their sporting events. His hobbies included bowling, golfing and hunting. He always enjoyed a good game of cards with his brothers. Dave enjoyed the simple pleasures in life like sitting on his front porch feeding his ducks.

Surviving with his wife of 39 years, Cynthia Gaby, are his children: Keanna Boyce, Brian Gaby, Tricia Cox, Krystal Murr, and Davina (Craig) Hanna, all of Logansport, and Zakary (Lindsay) Gaby, Lafayette; three brothers, Gerry Gaby, Howard “Dan” (Barb) Gaby, and Kenny (Judy) Gaby; grandchildren, Ashley, Dana, Brittany, Austin, Tate, Taylor, Breeanna, Kyle, Audrey, Luke, Makenzie, Kaine, Kelcee, Jordan, Dylan, Ryleigh, Alaina; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lacee Fowler.

Visitation hours will be held from 4 to 7 pm. Monday, August 8 in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

A Funeral Service celebrating David’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 9 in the funeral chapel.

Burial will follow in Idaville Cemetery.
