Jackie Lee “Jack” Best, 88, of Logansport, passed away at home on Saturday, August 27, 2022, with his family by his side.

Born October 22, 1933, in Gas City, Indiana, he was the son of the late Walter and Lillian (Gilliespie) Best.

On May 16, 1958, in the Broadway Methodist Church, he was married to Judy (Truax) Best, who survives.

Jack was a 1952 graduate of Logansport High School

He proudly served his Country in the United States Marine Corps from 1953-1956. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3790 and the American Legion Post 60.

Jack owned and operated Al’s Body Shop for over 65 years. Jack and Judy were both entrepreneurs, with his business right across the street from their home which housed Judy’s business, Best Daycare. Their children grew up learning the value of a strong work ethic and most importantly, parents who loved the Lord.

He enjoyed NASCAR and he was also a loyal Cubs, Colts, and Purdue fan. Jack took great pride in lawn mowing and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Surviving with his wife of 64 wonderful years, Judy Best, are their children Julie (Joe) Dilts, Winamac, Jim (Jami) Best and Jill (Brian) Wilson, all of Logansport; grandchildren, Chad (Stacy) Warner, Brandon Warner, Seth (Nicol) Wicker, Beau Wicker, Lauren (Tony) Best-Shuck, and Jenna Wicker; and great-grandchildren, Jada Warner, Rachel Warner, Maci Wicker, Lynley Wicker, Cameron Morrow, Jameson Best-Shuck and Annelise Best-Shuck.

He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Jean Best McArthy, sister, Barbara Best Dillman Early, and brothers, Arthur and Willis Best.

A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7 at Fisher Funeral Chapel.

A memorial service celebrating Jack’s life will be follow at noon with Dawn Fisher officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Team and the Cass County Honor Guard.

Interment, at a later date, will be in the Ever-Rest Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Cass County Humane Society.
