Lewis O. “Lew” McKinney

Lewis O. “Lew” McKinney, 75, of Kokomo, finished his fight with Parkinson’s Disease on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at his home.

Born in Peru, Indiana, on August 4, 1947, he was the son of the late Jack E McKinney and Thelma M. (Winters) McKinney Hynus.

Lew graduated from Lancaster High School, Ohio, in 1965.

On April 12, 1969, in Deer Creek, he was married to Tricia (Wilson) McKinney, who survives.

Lew spent his entire adult life in the TV-appliance business operating service and sales stores in Logansport and Monticello. In 2006, he began working at Lowes in Kokomo, as an appliance specialist. He loved his job, his many co-workers and customers. Moving to Kokomo in 2017 to be able to continue to work, advancing Parkinson’s forced him to retire in June of 2019.

While his health allowed it, he enjoyed bowling and loved to fish. He had lots of fish stories to tell. He was also a fan of Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson’s sufferers.

Surviving with his wife, are daughters, Stacey McKinney, Boerne, Texas, and April McKinney, Nashville, Tennessee; granddaughter, Lauren (Ryan) Reid, Boerne, Texas, and grandsons, Kyle Ridenour, Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Evan Ridenour, U.S. Navy, stationed in Bahrain; brothers, Tom (Lucien) McKinney, Ruther Glen, Virginia, and Gary (Laura) McKinney, Hewitt, Texas; sister-in-law, Cheryl Bailey, Kokomo; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and aunts.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, who loved him like a son, John and Pauline Wilson, brother, Bill McKinney, stepmother, Mary McKinney, stepfather, Robert Hynus, brother-in-law, Larry Bailey, and sister-in-law, Cathy McKinney as well as his beloved dogs, Sooner, Rumbles, Shalom and Bonnie.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6 in Fisher Funeral Chapel, 1801 Chase Road, Logansport. A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Sharol Eaker and Bob Gray officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Parkinson’s Foundation, the Michael J. Fox Foundation or Rock Steady Boxing in hopes of finding a cure for this horrific disease.
