Bonnie J. Abney, age 68, passed away at 7:18 a.m. Thursday, November 3, at home in Kokomo, after a hard-fought battle with cancer for two and a half years.
Born May 21, 1954, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Jarvis and Betty Evers Trainer.
Bonnie was married to Robert Abney on December 9, 1985. He preceded her in death August 19, 2022.
Bonnie was retired as a cook at the Thompson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Kentucky.
She enjoyed her dog, Pita, and was a racing fan and especially loved Tony Stewart. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving are sons, Timothy (Sheri) Trainer, Nicholasville, KY, Thomas (Kristi) Hayden, Rochester; sister, Carol Trainer, Kokomo; brothers, Robert (Karen) Trainer, Mishawaka, Kevin (Kris) Trainer, Logansport.
Also surviving are step-daughters, Cathy (Larry) Abney, Marcie Abney, Robin Abney, Toby Abney and Beth Martinez; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Bonnie was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William Trainer.
Visitation is from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, November 10th, at Kroeger Funeral Home, followed by a family service of remembrance at 6:00 p.m. with Jason Trainer officiating.
Bonnie’s family wishes to acknowledge Dr. Annette Moore and the staff at the Howard Community Hospital Oncology Department in Kokomo for exceptional care. Also appreciated by the family was the love and compassion of the Promedica Hospice staff during her final months. Long-time friends from Nicholasville, Kentucky, Sherry and Fred Orange, offered their faithful support and love throughout Bonnie’s life and final struggle.
Memorial contributions may be made to any local humane society or pet rescue center in Bonnie’s memory.
Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date.
