Carol S. Binney

Last Updated on November 1, 2022 by Fisher Funeral Chapel

Carol S. Binney, 79, Logansport, went to be with the Lord Saturday morning, October 29, 2022.

Born December 31, 1942, in Logansport, she was the daughter of the late Carl A. and Mary (McMillin) Myers.

A 1960 graduate of Logansport High School, Carol’s love of reading led her to be a cadet teacher during her senior year. She went on to obtain an Associates of Science degree in Education from Vincennes University.

Carol was the co-owner as well as the bookkeeper of Tweedie Electrics with her son – a job she first had in high school when her parents owned the family business. However, her love of children and helping others learn to read made education the focus of her life.

She began as an adult educator with the Logansport Community School Corporation and El-Tip-Wa. Later, she worked for Career Resources and the Little Children’s Ministry as a preschool teacher. Throughout her life, there were countless individuals who would come to her home to learn to read or speak English. Patience truly was her virtue and her soft=spoken manner inspired confidence, making her students want to exceed her expectations. She spent many years as a volunteer with the Cass County Literacy Association. She was presented a special literary award which was presented to her in-person by President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara. Carol was loved as an educator.

A longtime member of First United Methodist Church, Carol was not one to just sit in the pew. For many years, she volunteered to shepherd the children of the church, whether as a Sunday School teacher, the Children’s Church leader or a Vacation Bible School teacher, her heart was ministering to children.

When her own children were young, she was active in all aspects of their lives including Berry Boosters, Band Boosters and room mother duties. To her children’s friends, she was always, “Mom” to them as well. To her beloved grandchildren, she was “Grandma Muffin” always bringing a basket of freshly baked muffins when she came to visit. She loved animals of all kinds, especially her own menagerie of cats and dogs over the years.

Left to cherish her memory are four children, Mike Binney, Manhattan, Illinois, Suzanne Kesling, Avon, Indiana, Carl Binney, Logansport, Indiana, and Gretchen (Harriet) Binney, Eaton, Indiana; six grandchildren, Joshua (Jean) Binney, Jessica Binney, Samantha Binney, Morgan Kesling, Nathan Kesling, Avery Barnes, and Samantha Barton; one great-grandchild, Eleanor Binney; two siblings, Sandy (Bob) Persinger, and Mick Myers, all of Logansport, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Mark A. Kesling; and her former husband, Don Binney.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 5 in the Fisher Funeral Chapel. A funeral service celebrating Carol’s life will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday with Dawn Fisher officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery.

To honor Carol’s memory, those wishing to make charitable donations are encouraged to support the two things she loved the most, children and animals, with a gift to the Little Children’s Ministry or the Cass County Humane Society.
