Marjorie Speitel

Marjorie Speitel, 102, of Logansport, passed away quietly in her sleep on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, in Woodbridge Health Campus.

Born November 30, 1919, in Onward, IN, daughter of James Harrison “Harry” and Mary Alice Weaver Wilson.

On August 16, 1944, in Walton, Marjorie was married to Raymond H. Speitel who preceded her in death in 1985.

Marjorie was a 1937 graduate of Onward High School.

For many years, Marjorie worked at RBM Manufacturing. Following her retirement, she found the perfect job as a hostess at Mr. Happy Burger. Her beautiful smile and warm personality endeared her as a volunteer at Logansport Memorial Hospital, Marjorie’s involvement in the community kept her young.

Her faith was an important part of her life. Marjorie was a member the Main Street United Methodist Church and served in several capacities with the United Methodist Women, Marjorie also played the organ for the church for several years.

The Order of the Eastern Star was near and dear to her heart for the past 81 years. Her fellow members were like family. She was first initiated into the Walton Chapter #184 on October 9, 1941, where she served as secretary for many years and was a past Worthy Matron. In 2007, when the Walton and Logansport’s Fidelity Chapters merged into the Royal Center Chapter, Marjorie was faithful in her service and devotion to O.E.S. serving in many offices and stations until the pandemic. Her favorite station was representing the Biblical heroine, Adah – which she did for decades. Marjorie served as a past president of the Matrons and Patrons Association of Walton and the State Secretary-Treasurer Association. She traveled to chapters throughout the state during her time as the State Grand Warder, Grand Representative to New Hampshire and the State Secretary-Treasurer Association.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Ray E. and Renee Speitel, of Kingston, NH; two nieces, Carol (Rex) Snyder and Lois (Don) Abbott, and one nephew, Jim (Peg) Wilson.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Neal, and two brothers, Erbin Wilson and Lowell Wilson.

Friends will be received from 4-7 Wednesday, November 9 at the at the Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport, Indiana, where the Royal Center Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service at 6:30 p.m.

A Funeral Service celebrating Marjorie’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Doug Thomas officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery.
