The Sitzes family lived in Kokomo during the 1950s where she met Harold “Sonny” Mix. The couple wed New Year’s Eve in 1957 prior to Sonny being drafted by the United States Army during the Korean War. The two built a beautiful home together in Galveston, Indiana and raised three children: Harold Jr, Randy, and Kathy. Harold Jr “Harry” preceded her in death in 2007 after a battle with Cancer. Velda was also preceded in death by her husband Sonny after 60 years of marriage in 2017.  Randy Mix survives in Galveston and Kathy (Rob) Newsome survive in Muncie, Indiana.

She was the sister of Evert (Darlene) Sitzes, David Sitzes, and Marlena who proceed her in death along with one surviving beloved brother Loren “Bud” (Carol) Sitzes of Kokomo. She is survived by Nephews Steve (Terri) Sitzes and Danny Sitzes of Kokomo as well as nieces Rhonda (John) Fike of Tennessee, Heather Sitzes and Monica (Mark) Sitzes Poole, both surviving in Florida, and countless great nieces and nephews.

Velda retired from Delco Electronics with 34 years’ service as a group leader.  She also worked with her husband Sonny as bookkeeper and co-owner of Mix’s Auto Sales in Kokomo for over 30 years. Velda and Sonny were members of New Life Assembly of God Church in Kokomo. She was a homemaker and beloved Grandmother to Ryan (Corrynn) Mix of Kokomo as well as being an extremely proud great grandmother to her triplet great grandchildren Leo, Ellie, and Emersyn who brought her great joy. She was the “adoptive” grandmother to many others throughout her life including several foreign exchange students at Lewis Cass High School.

Some of the best memories were spent vacationing with Loren and Carol which included trips to Niagara Falls, the Biltmore Mansion, and Branson. The two couples could often be found out to eat at a steakhouse or the Kokomo Waffle House. New Year’s Eve would be spent around a Tark’s or Gabe’s Pizza and a game of Dominos.

Velda was an excellent cook and found happiness in serving others over her own needs, especially if that meant sending home leftovers in a Cool Whip or Country Crock container. She will be missed deeply by those who loved her.
