Alma Jean Harper, 83. Logansport, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 11, 2023, with her family by her side.
Born August 10, 1939, in Star City, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Williams) DePoy.
Jean was a 1957 graduate of Star City High School. On June 12, 1957, in the Star City United Methodist Church, Jean married her high school sweetheart, Darl E. Harper, who survives. The couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last year.
Jean first worked for the Star City Telephone Company before moving to Logansport in 1977 where she worked in customer service at GTE/Verizon for twenty years.
An avid reader, Jean visited the library often and enjoyed all types of novels. She and her husband enjoyed golfing together and she aced a hole-in-one at Rolling Hills Par 9. She was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan as well as an enthusiastic Purdue Boilermaker fan. Jean had a green thumb and cared for many beautiful flowers around their home.
Surviving with her husband, Darl, are two children, Shawn Harper, and Darcy (Harold) Toumine; one brother, Carl DePoy, one sister, JoAnn Wilson; one sister-in-law, Phyllis (Wayne) Crist; and her beloved grandchildren, Heather (Shay) Kasten, Courtney (Jacob) Lechlitner, Haleigh Toumine, Skyler Harper (fiancée, Chelsea Collins); three great-grandchildren, Raegan Kasten, and Emmie and Madilyn Hale; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Robert DePoy, Vivian Henry, Richard DePoy, Betty Olson, and Nancy DePoy.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, March 21 at the at Fisher Funeral Chapel.
A memorial service celebrating Jean’s life will follow at 6 p.m. with Dawn Fisher officiating.
Burial, at a later date, will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
