Doris Irene Hanawalt (Funkhouser), 91, passed away with her family by her side on March 4, 2023, in Leonard, Texas. 

She was born on November 29, 1931, to Richard Wirth Funkhouser and Nancy Belle Glosser in Adamsboro, Indiana.

Doris married Gerald Raymond Hanawalt on September 19, 1949. They shared 23 years of marriage.

Doris was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Leonard, Texas. She would devote her time in taking care of the nursery at church and helped clean the church for many years. She worked at Ennis Business Form for 32 years.

Doris was known by her family to be a great cook. She enjoyed gardening and was a seamstress. She loved playing cards, especially double solitaire.

Doris will be remembered by her daughter, Pamela Tippett of Leonard, Texas; grandson, Steven Wirth Johnson; granddaughter, Elizabeth Brooks and husband, James; great grandchildren, Casche Brooks and Stella Brooks; sister-in-law, Mary Funkhouser; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded by her parents, Richard and Nancy Funkhouser; ex-husband, Gerald Raymond Hanawalt; brothers, Richard Carl Funkhouser and Raymond Funkhouser; and sisters, Mildred Thomason and Betty McCollock.

A funeral service officiated by Joe Gist will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 11, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church in Leonard, Texas. Family will welcome visitors to a visitation at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 11, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church. 

The burial for Doris will be held at a later date in Logansport, Indiana at the Bethel Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers for the service are James Brooks, Casche Brooks, Eugene Kegans, Lloyd Flanagan, Mark Warren, and Nick Doyle.

Local arrangements have been entrusted to Fisher Funeral Chapel.
