Edward T. Smith, 75, Logansport, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023.at the St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

Born April 2, 1947, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Charles T. “Tom” and Betty M. (Foutz) Smith.

On APril 16, 1990, he was married to M. Paula (Fiarito) Smith, who survives.

A graduate of Royal Center High School, Ed attended Purdue University before entering the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam era. He was a member of the American Legion Post 60.

Ed was a loyal, hard-working provider for his family, retiring from NIPSCO after several years as a gas serviceman.

He had attended Pisgah Christian Church. Ed was a longtime member of the former Eagles Aerie No. 323.

An avid outdoorsman, Ed loved to hunt and fish. His garden was a great source of pride, he grew the biggest and the best vegetables.

Surviving with his wife, Paula, is his daughter, Julie Harper, Monticello; four stepsons, Carmi (Susan) DeButch, Michael (Michelle) DeButch, Carl (Debbie) DeButch, and Mark (Gina) DeButch, all of Illinois; brother, Ken (Trina) Smith; sister, Gloria Stines; seven grandchildren: CJ DeButch, Blake DeButch, Ashley Roach, Marissa DeButch, Trevor DeButch, Aislinn DeButch, and Charlie DeButch; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 30 in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

A Funeral Service celebrating Ed’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 31 in the funeral chapel with Pastor Tim Minnick officiating.

Interment will follow in Davis Cemetery, near Burnettsville.
