Kathleen Sue “Kathy” Pattee, 69, of Logansport, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday in the emergency room of Logansport Memorial Hospital following a pulmonary embolism. Despite heroic efforts by her dear friends who were with her, and the medical workers who assisted, March 25, 2023, was the day God called her home.

Born August 11, 1953, in Logansport, Kathy was the daughter of the late John R. “Jack” and Janet E. (Chapman) Young.

Kathy was married in Watseka, Illinois, to Richard Lee “Rich” Pattee, who survives. The couple recently celebrated 45 years of marriage.

A 1971 graduate of Logansport High School, Kathy graduated from Indiana University-Kokomo in 1974, earning her associate degree in nursing. She began her career as a charge nurse at Memorial Hospital. From 1983-1994, Kathy was Dr. Morrical’s nurse at the office of Logan Internists. In 1997, while working full-time as Memorial Hospital’s health educator/risk manager, in addition to being a wife and mother of three, Kathy completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, at the Indiana Wesleyan College.

She conducted many CPR training classes for the American Heart Association as well as giving AED instruction to numerous groups and individuals. She also taught smoking cessation classes for the American Cancer Society. From 2003-2006 she was the Director of Nursing at LMH’s extended care center, The Arbor. In 2014, she earned a Master of Science degree in Nursing Administration. She considered herself a lifelong learner and was proud to be the oldest graduate in her class at IUK. Kathy retired from the Logansport State Hospital in 2019 after serving as the Director of Nursing for thirteen years.

Kathy was a member of the Revolution Church. She actively served her community, not only as a nurse, but as a board member with the Cass County Carousel, the 4-County Counseling Center, and the Cass County Historical Society. She was a member of the Delta Theta Chi sorority.

She loved to travel and was always ready for the next vacation. Kathy was full of fun. If you knew her, you can close your eyes and hear the delightful sound of her laughter. It was contagious. She enjoyed all types of games – card games, board games and even video games with her grandsons, She considered it a great honor to be a grandma.

Most of all, Kathy had a servant’s heart – she loved taking care of people and animals. She was the patron saint of stray animals – nursing them back to health and finding them homes. In addition to caring for her husband with his healthcare challenges, she always found time to care for others. She had chosen a profession that suited her well. Even in death – as a donor with Donate Life Indiana – her wish to help people was granted. Her final gift will enhance the lives of more than 75 people through tissue and cornea donation.

Surviving with her husband, Rich Pattee, are three children: Jeremy (Kate) Pattee, Logansport, Heather (Brett) Bane, Carmel, and Nathan Pattee, Logansport; two grandsons, Richard Pattee and Seth Garretson; her niece, Mikki (Greg) Vincent, Michigan; longtime family friend, Joe Shepler; and several extended family members, friends. colleagues and the Troop 2 Scout family.

The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, that a donation to one of Kathy’s favorite charities would be a wonderful way to remember the impact she had on this community: Donate Life – Indiana; Pets R Us (Cass County Humane Society); Cass County Carousel; Troop 2 Boy Scouts of America; or the Cass County Historical Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
