Last Updated on April 28, 2023 by Fisher Funeral Chapel

Joseph Weldon Shepler, 94, of Logansport, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Joseph was born on August 1, 1928, to Joseph F. and Mildred (Laymon) Shepler.

A 1946 graduate of Logansport High School, Joseph graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1950. During his time at Purdue, Joseph was a member of the Air Force ROTC. Following his graduation from Purdue, he served two years in the United States Air Force. He was honored to participate in the Honor Flight trip to Washington, DC.

Following his service to our country, Joseph began working with an engineering firm. As a businessman, Joseph co-owned and operated Logansport Marine Sales along with Rex Shilling. For most of his life, he worked in sales for John Tierney with Wabash Wholesale. Following his retirement, he was employed with McCord’s Do-It Best Center for several years.

Joseph married the love of his life, Joan Spitznogle, on April 16, 1955 at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church.

The happy couple welcomed five children; Mark, Cindy, Dave, Erica and Renee. The family enjoyed traveling around the states camping in his own home built campers that Joe engineered himself. A true lover of nature, he enjoyed visiting National Parks, bird watching, gardening and his greatest passion – golf. In 2014 at the age of 86 he hit his first hole in one at Dykeman Golf Course, a highlight of his later years. If you would ask him what the secret is to live a long life he would tell you “Keep active…and drink lots of beer.”

He is survived by his only sister Elaine Abner, all of his children; Mark Shepler (Becky), Cynthia Shively (Keith Cothron), David Shepler (Kathy), Erica Romero (Robert), and Renee Shepler, his grandchildren; Justin Kleiber (Heather), Heath Shively, Warren “Joey” Shively, Allison Shepler, Christine Shepler, Jordan Shepler, Darrell Brook, Zak Shepler, Natalie Shepler, Dillion Brook, Robert Romero Jr., Elena Romero, his great-grandchildren; Wyatt Kleiber, and Easton Kleiber, and many nieces and nephews.
