Emmy Speicher Leeman

Emmy Leeman, 95, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, at her residence at Wynnfield Crossing, Rochester, Indiana.

Born on May 22, 1927, in Newton County, Indiana, she was the daughter of William and Iva (Reprogle) Medley. Her siblings were Helena, Maurice, Robert and Patricia. All preceded her in death.

Mrs. Leeman was a graduate of Buck Creek High School in Lafayette, Indiana, and she attended Indiana University at Kokomo.

For most of her life, Mrs. Leeman resided in Cass County, Indiana. She was a case worker for the Cass County Dept. of Public Welfare for 15 years. Before and after that time, she enjoyed substitute teaching and ended her working years selling real estate for the former Brokerage House in Logansport.

Mrs. Leeman was an active member of several churches: Webb Chapel Methodist and First United Methodist (Church of the Good Shepherd), both in Logansport, and Grace United Methodist in Rochester, Indiana. During her early years she was active in the Logansport community serving on several boards including Cass County Guidance Center, Four County Counseling Center, Neal Home, Logansport Art Association and was a past president of Cass County Pastoral Counseling Center.

Mrs. Leeman was an avid reader and a gourmet cook. She loved learning new things like tap dancing and watercolor painting. She especially liked Bible study, attending Bible Fellowship International classes in Marion, Indiana and Lafayette, Indiana. She spent many winters in Florida following her retirement, and those memories of making new friends, nature hikes and evenings dancing sustained her in her later years.

Mrs. Leeman married C. Daniel Speicher in 1945 after World War II. He died of cancer 30 years later. In 1976 she married Hugh Leeman, whose wife, Carolyn, had also died of cancer. She and Mr. Leeman were married 45 years. He died in February of 2022.

Mrs. Leeman was a loving mother to her children: Ted (Norma) Speicher, Loganport; Kelly (Pam) Leeman, Kokomo; Janey (Max) Speicher Borden, Rochester; Kevin (Stephanie) Leeman, Mc Grawsville: JoAnn (Michael) Speicher Tierney, Sugar Grove, IL; Kim (Gary) Leeman Warren, Long Boat Key, Fl. She especially adored her 24 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and first great great grandchild.

A celebration of life for Mrs. Leeman will be at 11 a.m. Monday morning, May 22, 2023, on what would have been her 96th Birthday at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport. Visitation will be one hour before the celebration. A private burial will follow. She will be interred at Mount Hope Cemetery.
