Nancy Carnell (Brown) Stone, age 69, Camden, passed away peacefully with her family beside her, at 3:00 p.m. on May 8, 2023, at IU Health Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

Born in Logansport on February 13, 1954, she was the daughter of Thomas and Helen (Murphy) Brown, both of whom preceded her in death. On July 9, 1983, she married George Ellis Stone. He survives.

Nancy resided on the family farm near Camden prior to attending college. She was a 1972 graduate of Carroll High School. She received a B.A. degree in elementary education from Purdue University in 1976 and an M.S. degree from Indiana University in 1981.  She subsequently taught in several schools in Indiana totaling over 35 years. She concluded her career teaching third grade for 23 years at Albion Elementary School. Nancy was truly a master teacher and served as a mentor to many younger colleagues.

Nancy knew how to live life to the fullest. In retirement she and George built a home on the original Camden homestead. Perfect days included reading a good book in her sunroom, swimming with family and friends in her pool, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to George, her husband of nearly 40 years, are her daughter, Anne Carnell (Kevin) Curosh, Fishers; son, Patrick Murphy (Samantha) Stone, Indianapolis; stepdaughter, Emily (Jeremy) Zucker, Zionsville, and their children, Molly, Phoebe, and John; and her beloved grandchildren, Sophia Carnell Curosh, George Thomas Curosh, Liam Murphy Stone and Ellis Catherine Stone.

Also surviving are a brother, John (Suzanna) Brown, Hanover. A brother, Edward Murphy Brown, and a sister, Mary Susan Brown, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday (Mother’s Day), May 14, 2023, at Kroeger Funeral Home.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 15th, at St. Joseph’s Church, Delphi. Visitation will also be one hour prior to mass at the church in Delphi.
