Betty “Jean” Swisher, age 89, Logansport, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Miller’s Merry Manor.

Born February 11, 1934, in Plymouth, Indiana, she was the daughter of Everett and Florence Loretta Ulrich Hampton.

On May 14, 1952, in Logansport, she married Raymond “Tump” Swisher, who preceded her in death June 4, 1981.

A 1952 graduate of Logansport High School, Jean was a housewife while raising the children, then had several jobs including, teacher’s aide for the hearing impaired, receptionist at Logan Internists, and registration at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

In earlier years, Jean enjoyed dancing and going out with friends. She was sometimes jokingly referred to as “Jean, Jean, the dancing machine”. She liked to crochet, enjoyed good movies, and was an avid reader and spent lots of time with her kids and grandkids. She especially enjoyed family get-togethers, meals, and traveling with them.

She was a member of the VFW and American Legion auxiliaries.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael & Julie Swisher, Logansport, Mark & Jackie Swisher, Winnebago, Illinois; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia & Tom Steinberger, Logansport; grandchildren, KC Reynoso Swisher, Wendy & Broc Rennewanz, Danielle & Kyle Mathias, Erin Swisher & Ryan Gagliano, Kelly Swisher & Justin & McGrane, Stacey & Brad Lauer, Katelyn Swisher, Tana & Pete Povolo, Cole Steinberger & Chelsey Franklin; seventeen great grandchildren.

Jean was preceded by a son, Bruce Swisher, and a brother, Edward Hampton.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023, at Kroeger Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at Mount Hope Cemetery, her place of final interment.
