Ronald R. “Ron” Bullard

Last Updated on July 5, 2023 by Fisher Funeral Chapel

Ronald R.”Ron” Bullard, 83, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 5, 2023, in Woodbridge Health Campus following an extended illness.

Born December 20, 1938, in Laporte, he was the son of the late Raymond and Vera (Lawrence) Bullard.

A graduate of San Pierre High School, Ron learned everything he could about livestock at an early age by riding along with his father who hauled livestock. In 1975, he and his family moved to Logansport after purchasing the Stony Pike Livestock Auction which is now owned and operated by his sons, Butch and Kevin.

On March 9, 1998, in Clayton, New Mexico, he was married to Marsha (Clark) Bullard, who survives.

Ron was best known as the owner of a Logansport icon – the Bullshipper’s Cafe. He created a large extended family of patrons, loyal waitresses, cooks and staff members who made you feel like you belonged the minute you walk in the door. His philosophy was simple – offer good company and affordable home-cooked meals.

The restaurant continues to be a place filled with lively discussions and toy farm animals to entertain even the youngest clientele. And Ron loved children, which was evident by the photos of his grands and great grands that filled the walls. He always made sure the children’s pockets were filled with candy before they left. He enjoyed their hugs. Ron’s family appreciates the support of this community over the years and especially now, as they carry on his legacy by continuing to operate the much-loved restaurant with the same principles established by Ron.

A fan of any team playing against Purdue, Ron loved sports. He especially loved supporting local high school athletics. He grew up during hard times and was very humble in paying it forward to others – something he felt blessed to be able to do. He was also proud to support the local law enforcement officers by helping in the purchase of K-9 officers.

Surviving with his wife, Marsha, are six children, Dawn (Mark) Guckien, Kelly (Dwight) Ginn, Stephanie Hughes, Ron “Butch” (Kelly) Bullard, Chuck (Carolyn) Bullard, and Kevin (Cathy) Bullard; four stepchildren, Christy (Joel) Morrow, Travis (Cori) Olson, Chad (Tiffani) Pentecost, and Dustin Olson; 33 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Ann Bullard.

A private graveside service for family will be held in San Pierre Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Ron’s life will be held from 1:30 – 4 p.m. Saturday, July 8 in Bullshipper’s Cafe, 830 East Main Street, Logansport.

In lieu of flowers, this obituary will be updated soon with names of charitable causes that Ron supported for those wishing to make a memorial contribution in his memory.
