Gavin Joseph Griffin

Gavin Joseph Griffin, 16, of Galveston, passed away unexpectedly Monday, August 28, 2023.  He was born June 17, 2007, in Indianapolis to Brent Edward Griffin and Corinna June Stilwell.  Gavin had lived in Galveston all of his life.  He was a sophomore attending Lewis Cass Jr. Sr. High School.

Gavin was an avid athlete involved in varsity cross country, varsity track and field, and basketball.  His 8th grade year, Gavin qualified for the State in Track and Field for the 100, 200, and 400 meter dash, and long jump.  In 2022, his team for cross country went to semi-state.  The following year in 2023, Gavin’s 4 x 4 relay team for track and field attended regionals. Gavin was also very passionate when it came to his academics and maintained high honor roll.

In Gavin’s free time he enjoyed going to the beach and riding the jet ski, working out, running, golfing with friends, dunking his basketball, listening to music, and spending time with his family.  He was a very vibrant, happy and loving person.  He was excited about getting his drivers license on September 16th.  He loved his family and friends very much, especially his twin sister Aftin and brother Sutter.

Surviving family include his parents, Brent Edward Griffin and Corinna June Stilwell, Galveston; brother, Sutter Griffin, Kempton; sister, Aftin Griffin, Galveston; Grandparents, Ken and Cathy Stilwell, Royal Center, and Rick and Cheryl Griffin, Galveston.  He is also survived by aunts, Wanda Coffin, Reynolds and Brooke Wagner, Galveston; uncles, Doug Coffin, Reynolds and Zach Wagner, Galveston; cousins, Justin and Nicole Woods, Katlyn Coffin, Drake Wagner, Koston Meyers, Ariak Haynes, Simon and Myles Woods, and Rosalie Coffin.  He is preceded in death by his paternal great grandmother, Dorajean Montgomery and Cousin Dakota Coffin.

Visitation will take place from 3 – 8 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2023, at United in Faith Church, 5125 S. Maple Street, Galveston, IN and funeral services to follow on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. also at the church with pastor Mark Davis officiating.  Burial will follow in the Young America Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Cass County Zero Suicide Taskforce, 1672, E. Co. Rd. 500 S., Logansport, IN 46947 in Gavin’s memory.
