David L. Nihiser Jr.

David L. Nihiser Jr., 91, of Logansport, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023, in his residence surrounded by his family.

Born on February 3, 1932, in East Chicago, Indiana, David is the son of the late David L. Nihiser Sr. and Edna Mae (Wheeler) Nihiser.  On January 2, 1973, in the Bethel Temple Church in Logansport, he married Diana DeBarge who survives.

David is a United States Air Force Veteran, he retired from the Indiana National Guard as First Sergeant after 20 years. He had driven a school bus for the Logansport Community School Corporation for 38 years. David was an ordained Foursquare Pastor and served for 10 years at the Burnettsville Church of the Brethren.

Surviving along with his wife Diana, are seven children, David (Jutta) Nihiser III, of Crown Point; Donna (Bill) Holding of Granite Falls, NC; Daniel (April) Nihiser of Brookville, OH; Debbie (John) Laurencell of Las Vegas; Dawn (Jeff) Wild of Burnettsville; Cecil (Carol) Smith of Athens, AL; Kristi (Wes) Hull of Galveston; 17 grandchildren; and 31 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nadine Miller and Charlene Larkin and a grandson Dillen Dorsey.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at the Burnettsville Church of the Brethren, 100 S. Main Street, with Pastor Dawn Wild officiating. There will be a visitation time before the service from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

An additional visitation will be held Tuesday, September 19, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Gundrum Funeral Home.  Military Rites will be held at 6:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Burnettsville Church of the Brethren.
