Gary G. Elvers, Logansport, passed away unexpectedly on September 5th, 2023, at his home.
Born November 25, 1955, in Logansport, he was the son of the late George C. and Virginia (Whaley) Elvers.
A 1974 graduate of Logansport High School, Gary excelled in the Speech team and National Forensic League competitions. He was a writer for the school’s newspaper, The Magpie, and was on the Tattler’s yearbook staff.
Gary owned and operated Elvie’s Record Shop (Est. 1974) on the city’s northwest side. He continued the business into Kokomo in the early 90’s, and then reopened in Logansport in 2013. He was in business for 49 years.
In 1972, he helped the local UFO chapter host the Congress of Scientific Ufologists here in Logansport. He was fascinated with space travel and the possibility of alien life. Gary was also a longtime advocate for the legalization of marijuana. He helped organize the Green Wave Hemp Festivals that were held in Cass County
He is survived by his brother, Dr. Greg Elvers, his long-time partner Rana McMahon, and close friends, Shanna Daniels, & Ruth Parmeter.
Gary’s wishes for cremation will be honored. There will be no services.
