Patricia S. (Crain) Mitchell

Patricia S. (Crain) Mitchell, formerly of Logansport, Indiana, passed away on Friday, September 15th, in Indianapolis.

Born and raised at 1827 North Street in Logansport, Patricia was the second oldest daughter of Richard J. and Louise M. (Iannelly) Crain. The third oldest of seven children, she graduated in 1969 from Logansport High School. She was known to family and friends in school as Patty.

Patricia spent most of her adult life in Atlanta, Georgia. She met Perry Mitchell, her husband of 10 years, in Georgia. Everyone was Darlin’ to her while living there. So, at an early age her nephew gave her the nickname Darlin’ and she was no longer Aunt Patricia!

She returned to Indiana knowing she could be closer to her family. She resided in Indianapolis, where she worked at AT&T for 18 years. In retirement, she loved working alongside her sister Rita at Habig’s Garden Cottage.

She was the sister who was always in charge – bossy and somewhat intimidating to many people! She had a special way of planning to make sure everything was perfect and in line, with no surprises.

While Aunt ‘Chi-Chi’ loved following the Atlanta Braves over the years, she never took her eyes off CNN News channel either, as a staunch Democrat (do not interrupt with a phone call).

Our family always knew that our gatherings were bound to happen on Darlin’s time, because she was so motherly and scheduled.

She absolutely loved the outdoors and watching/listening to the birds. Springtime was so important, knowing she would go mushroom hunting at a record-breaking slow pace alongside her family. Her other interests were many, including gardening, reading, listening to NPR, collecting green art pottery and pink depression glass, and dear Betty Boop was seen lurking in her condo!

Surviving our Darlin’ Patricia are siblings: Don Crain, Rita Kleinschmidt (Steve Muehlhausen), Steve and Deb Crain, Anita Huddleston (Phil Heckathorn), Jim and Andrea Crain.

Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, sister Dana, brother-in-law (Jim Kleinschmidt), sister-in-law (Shirley Crain), nephew (Oliver Iannelly Crain), and great nephew (Hunter).

On September 21, 2023, between 12:00 noon and 2:00 PM, we will share the memories of her life with a public visitation at Kroeger-Crain Funeral Home. The visitation will be followed by her funeral at 2:00 PM, with the Reverend Ken Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery next to her beloved family.

Some, knowing how she loved her cats, may wish to give to Pets R Us, (700 Water Street, Logansport, IN 46947). She passed away doing what she loved, watching the neighbor’s cats and waiting for an episode of Perry Mason to come on.

Memorial contributions can be made to Cass County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 441, Logansport, IN  46947, to benefit the future open-air Bethel Cemetery Memorial Chapel in memory of her late nephew, Oliver Iannelly Crain. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.

We ask that you hug your pets in memory of Patricia.
