Howard E. Turnpaugh

Howard E. Turnpaugh, 79, of Mexico, Indiana passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023, at his home. He was born April 24, 1944, in Peru, Indiana to Rodney V. Turnpaugh and Annabel (Roach) Turnpaugh. He married Helen L. Robertson and she survives.

Howard retired from Chrysler Transmission in Kokomo with over 30 years’ service in the tool crib. He was affectionally known to his friends at Chrysler as “Zero”. He enjoyed farming, squirrel and rabbit hunting, fishing, watching old westerns with John Wayne and Purdue sports on T.V. He was a member of the Walton Christian Church in Walton, UAW Local #685, and the NRA. Howard also volunteered for the Salvation Army in Peru for many years.

Surviving family include his wife Helen Turnpaugh of Mexico, his children, Mariann (Steve Smith) Hill, Susan (Scott) Jeffers, Annabel (Bob) Bradley, and Alice Gonzalez. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jessemie (Christopher) Laisure, Brookston (Zachary) Retherford, Braden “Winchester” Hill, Christine Valinet, Breanna Menefee (TJ Burrus), Sadie (David ) Harmon, Alexis Jeffers, Seith “Remington” Jeffers, Dawn Bradley, Bobbi (Stephen) Skarja, Micaih (Josh) Mann, Matthew Silva, Presley Gonzalez and Katie Gonzalez; 19 great grandchildren and siblings, Karen Criswell and Dave Turnpaugh. He is preceded in death by his parents and stepparents, Fred “Fritz” (Elizabeth) Fickle.

Visitation will be held from 10 – 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with services to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Walton IOOF Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army or the American Cancer Society in Howard’s memory.
