Karen S. (Russow) Starkey

Karen S. Starkey, age 82, Logansport, passed away at 7:28 p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2023, in Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne.

Born August 22, 1941, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Kenneth L. and Waneta Connell Russow.

On November 26, 1966, Karen was married to Philip Starkey, who survives. They were married fifty-seven years.

Karen was a 1959 graduate of Idaville High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in 1963 and master’s degree in 1966, both from Indiana State University.

She was an elementary school teacher in the Logansport Community Schools for thirty-five years, retiring in 1996. Karen was a member of the Cass County Retired Teachers and Indiana Retired Teachers Associations. She had been a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa sorority.

She enjoyed playing euchre, Aggravation, and playing golf in earlier years. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and their activities.

Karen was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, formerly First United Methodist Church, where she had been a member of the choir and served on a number of church committees.

Surviving is a son, Brian (Michelle) Starkey, Logansport; daughter, Melissa (Neil) Browne, Medina, Ohio; grandsons, Alex Starkey, Eli Starkey, Brady Browne and Evan Browne; brother, Jeff Russow, Monticello; sister, Anne Martin, Monticello; several nieces and nephews.

A twin sister, Marilyn Phelps, preceded her in death.

 Visitation will be from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 22nd, at Kroeger Funeral Home.

The funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Friday, also at the funeral home, with Pastor Michael Goodspeed officiating.

Interment will be in Ever Rest Memorial Park.

Kroeger Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Logansport High School Alumni Association for scholarship programs to benefit all teachers in the Logansport schools, both elementary and secondary. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
