Betty A. (Skaggs) Chambers

BBetty Ann Chambers, age 82, Logansport, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2024, in Franciscan Health Lafayette East Hospital, Lafayette.

Born February 22, 1941, in Cadiz, Ohio, she was the daughter of Robert O. and Mary M. Cramblett Skaggs.

On June 30, 1962, in Kokomo, she married Gary Richard “Dick” Chambers, who preceded her in death September 8, 2021.

Betty was a loving and caring wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma. Her compassion and service reached well beyond her family. She was always a willing participant in family activities and antics.

Betty worked 30+ years in the Logansport Community School Corporation.

She was an active member of countless Christian and community organizations and a living disciple of Christ.

Betty was the Salutatorian of her high school class. She valued education and was a life-long learner. She greatly enjoyed keeping her mind sharp and active with crossword puzzles.

How do you wrap up eighty years in words? Betty was social long before social media. She was loving, welcoming, friendly and a source of solace for those in need.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Glenda Chambers, Logansport; daughter, Deborah A. Chambers, Greenwood; son-in-law, Paul Murray, Logansport; brother, Joseph (Marilyn) Skaggs, Howe, Ind.; sister, Erma Skaggs, Marion. Ind.; brother-in-law, George (Martha) Chambers, Melbourne, Fla.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Dustin Murray (Shonda), Nic (Britny) Murray, Victoria (Alex) Bernard, Benjamin (Ryan) Chambers; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by two daughters, Melinda S. Murray and Roberta L. “Bert” Chambers.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 19th, at Kroeger-Crain Funeral & Cremation.

The funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, also at the funeral home, with Pastors Kristen Schmid and Doug Thomas officiating.

Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Cass County.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bert Chambers Memorial Scholarship Fund, with envelopes available at the funeral home. Contributions may also be made to any charity of the donor’s choice.
