Martha L. Smith, 91, of Logansport, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024, in Chase Center.
Born September 3, 1932, in Logansport, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Ross) Harper.
On July 9, 1950, she was married to Robert Eugene Smith. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2019.
A homemaker, Martha was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. When her children were young, she served as a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother. Martha was very creative and enjoyed oil painting and knitting. She also decorated beautiful cakes for friends and family. Martha and Bob were members of the “Bridge City Squares” square dancing club, traveling all over the state. Martha’s favorite card game was Pegs and Jokers.
Martha was a member of the Lake Cicott Church. She loved to worship Jesus and enjoyed the fellowship of her church family.
Surviving are five children, Larry (Donna) Smith, English, IN, Cynthia L (Ron) Blackman, Logansport, Steven D (Alice) Smith, Wabash. and Edward J (Lisa) Smith, and Tracy A (Theresa) Smith, all of Logansport; one sister, Ruth Stearns, Logansport; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Don and John Harper.
A funeral service celebrating Martha’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 26 in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Adam Speicher officiating.
Burial will follow in Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Friday, prior to the service in the funeral chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or Lake Cicott United Methodist Church.
