Janet “Joan” (Gibson) Sutton

Janet “Joan” Sutton, 93, of Avon, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Brooke Knoll Village in Avon.  She was born March 18, 1930, in Miami County, Indiana to Ralph and Caroline “Carrie” (Childers) Gibson.  Joan was a 1948 graduate of Bunker Hill High School. She married Ferris D. Sutton March 17, 1951, in Kokomo.  He preceded her in death February 24, 2004.

Joan retired from Bon Air elementary school in Kokomo as the cafeteria manager with 30 years’ service.  She was a member of Bible Baptist Church for many years.  She always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and volunteering at the Kokomo Senior Center helping with the elderly residents and reading to children through the Book Buddy Program in school for many years.  In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and cooking.

Surviving family include her children, Vickie (Ron) Jerome of Avon; Larry (Julie) Sutton and Gary (Debbie) Sutton both of Carmel.  Surviving grandchildren include Kristi (Mike) Shaffer; Holli Kemmerling; Dan Sutton; Courtney (Andrew) Pickerill; Elizabeth Sutton and Rebecca (Nickolas) O’Brien.  Surviving great grandchildren are Kyle, Devin, Ashlyn, Ella, Archer, Nora, Sutton and Max.  Great great grandchildren, Gunner, Oakley and Wilder. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ferris, brother, Carl, and sisters, Eva, Norma and Mary Louise.

A celebration of Joan’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m.  Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with Pastor Keith Treadway officiating.  Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home.  Joan will be laid to rest next to her husband Ferris at Sunset Memory Gardens in Kokomo. Memorial contributions may be given to Bible Baptist Church in her memory.  Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston has been entrusted with arrangements. www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com
