Esther Ann (Wagner) McMillen, 90, of Logansport passed away at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2024 in Logansport.
She was a New Year’s Eve baby born on December 31, 1933 in Logansport, the sixth child of William “Bill” and Ursula (Crowe) Wagner.
She attended St. Joseph elementary and middle school and was a 1952 Logansport High School graduate.
She met the love of her life, Donald McMillen on a blind date set up by her best friend. Esther Ann, a city girl and Don, a country boy were married on June 14, 1952 on Flag Day, also the date of her parents’ anniversary, at St. Joseph (All Saints) Catholic Church in Logansport. They settled on the family farm raising angus cattle. They welcomed a daughter, Joyce Ann. Don was called away for the Korean War and he was not able to meet Joyce until she was 18 months old. Son, John came along then 9 years later a daughter, Julianna.
Esther Ann was a stay at home mom when her children were younger and very involved with their activities. Her happiest moments were spent with family and friends. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, extra-curricular school activities and her great grandchildren’s birthday parties. She enjoyed cooking for the Sunday family dinners, decorating for the holidays and reading. Later she worked for the Children’s Youth Bureau Service, Kellers Sire Shop and All Saints extended care.
Esther Ann was also a member of the All Saints Ladies Society, Our Lady of the Snows Study Club, Daughters of Isabella, Elderberries, Eucharistic Minister, Elkettes, VFW Auxiliary, and volunteered for many years at the All Saints funeral dinners.
Esther Ann leaves behind her children, Joyce Ann Holland (Mike) of Columbia, Missouri, John McMillen (Dalene) of Logansport and Julianna Callaway (Steve) of Logansport, grandchildren, Matthew Burns (Carrie) of Columbia, Missouri, Andrea Burns of Columbia, Missouri, Dr. Brock McMillen (Sabrina) of Carmel, Brooke Patz (Eric) of Carmel, Cole Callaway (Katy) of Brookston, Kenedy Callaway of Logansport, Amanda Smith (Mark) of Columbia, Missouri, Brent Holland of Ft. Leonard, Missouri and Chris Holland (Roxanne) of Germany, great grandchildren, Luke, Hayden, Morgan, Avelyn, and Kherington Burns, Madelyn, Jackson and Greyson McMillen, Caroline, John and Audrey Patz, Luke, Leia, Ezra, Jenny and Aiden Holland, Charlotte Smith and baby Callaway due in August, and sisters in law, Joan McMillen McIntosh and Nellie Wagner. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Mary Worl (Nolan), Helen Knight (Cecil), Dorothy Grimes (Bob), Sarah Jane Kitchel, Daniel Wagner, brothers in law, Richard and Robert McMillen, Dan McIntosh and her in laws, Russell and Madeline McMillen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 22, 2024 at All Saints Catholic Church.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Marocco Chapel, 119 E. Market St., Logansport.
A private burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
