Joseph ‘Joe’ T. James

Joseph ‘Joe’ T. James, 65, Logansport passed away Monday, March 25, 2024, following a two-year battle with cancer.

Joe was born September 1, 1958, to the late Charles and Patty (Knapp) James.

He was a lifetime sports enthusiast and athlete. Joe enjoyed watching high school, college, and professional sports including football, basketball, and baseball. He also enjoyed golf and NASCAR. He loved open-wheel racing, especially at Eldora Speedway in Ohio and US 24 Speedway in Lake Cicott. He coached Little League at Fairview Park for his sons, grandsons, granddaughter and with a friend’s team.

Joe had worked at Wilson Foods and Carlisle Manufacturing, before his employment at Four County, where he enjoyed speaking with and helping clients.

Joe married Jennie Quillen on July 29, 1979, in Logansport, who survives. Together they raised six children: Joel, Derreck (Kim Jones), Amelissa, Derian, Justin, and Amichaela, all of Logansport.

Surviving along with his wife and children are grandchildren; Kadrean Burrage, Dru Burrage, Cadence James, Akai James, Kinzee James and Lucas Jones; siblings, Jennifer Rogers (Mark), Janice Brumett, Jerry (April) James, Jon (Denise) James, Jeannine (Cary) Goodman, Jeremy (Stacy) James, and Julie (Jason) Utter; uncle, Don James, who officiated at Joe’s wedding; sister-in-law Amy Quillen (Mark) Pumel, Kim (Pam Strain) Quillen. Also surviving is Joe’s uncle, Don James, who officiated at Joe & Jennie’s wedding, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. 

He was preceded in death by brothers, Charles ‘Chuck’ James, Jamie James, and Jeff James; a special uncle, Dennis Medbourn; niece, Kimberly James; brothers-in-laws, Gary Rogers, Jeff Brumett, and Dennis ‘Doc’ Quillen; sister-in-law, Gayle (Quillen) Adams; and niece, Mariah Malott.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Logansport Cancer Center staff, nurses, Dr. David Kim, Dr. Jenelle Miller, and Guardian Angel Hospice for their treatments, care and support.

Visitation hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

A Funeral Service celebrating Joe’s life will be held at noon on Wednesday, April 3, in the funeral chapel. Dawn Fisher will officiate at the service.

Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
