Merril Lantz

Merril Lantz, 77, Logansport, Indiana, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024, in the IU Arnett Hospital, Lafayette.

Born November 25, 1946, in Logansport, he was the son of Jacob and Dorothy (Helvie) Lantz. 

On February 27, 1982, in Logansport, Merril was married to Sharon Kay “Punkie” (Scales) Lantz.  She preceded him in death August 17, 1999. 

Merril was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post 37909.

A spring coiler, Merrill worked as a Ironmonger Springs in Walton.

He was skilled in woodworking. Merril also enjoyed making rubber band bracelets for everyone – he always carried several in his pocket. A natural-born comedian, he loved making people laugh. Merril enjoyed drinking coffee with his buddies at Bullshipper’s. He kept his mind sharp solving puzzles of all kinds. His passion was his 1968 Harley Davidson.

He is survived by three children, Mary Minter, Mexico, IN, Jacob (Tori) Lantz, Valparaiso, and Kimberly (Jennifer) Lantz Morris, Peru; three stepchildren, Donald (Angie) Boehme, Logansport, Scott (Tammy) Boehme, Peru, and Robert (Tammy) Boehme, Logansport; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Lantz; five sisters, Phyllis Merritt, Donna Young, Luanna Harper, Audrey Ray, and his twin, Sherril Gibbs; and four brothers, Roy, Herbert, Delmer, and Alan Lantz.

A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 27 in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

At 11 a.m. the funeral procession will leave for Davis Cemetery. The U.S. Army Honor Team and the Cass County Honor Guard will present military honors. A graveside service, officiated by Pastor Doug Thomas, will follow.

Burial will be in Davis Cemetery, near Burnettsville.
