Phyllis A. Cooksey

Phyllis A. Cooksey, 84, of Logansport, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born April 20, 1939, to Harland D. and Pauline M. (Burkett) Baber.  She graduated from Tipton Twp High School and married Robert Cooksey Sr. on April 12, 1957. They were married for 23 years and remained lifelong friends until his death in 2005.

Phyllis was a homemaker, sold Avon and worked for Area 5, White Rodgers and retired from Small Parts Inc. in Logansport in 2011.  She loved working in her flower beds, gardening, picking strawberries, watching people pass by in the neighborhood and watching for birds, especially her cardinals which she said were her pretty boy and pretty girl and reminded her of her parents who also enjoyed watching birds.  She was also a fan of the Cincinnati Reds, James Dean, Garfield and listening to the We Care Auction. Family was very important to Phyllis, especially her grandkids and great grandkids.

Surviving family include her children, Robert E. (Teresa) Cooksey, Deer Creek; David N. (Mona) Cooksey, Kokomo; Julie A. (Paul) Sagarsee, Kokomo; Debra K. (Greg) Wright, Galveston; and Cheryl L. (Clark) Smoot, Marion.  She is also survived by 12 grandkids and 20 great grandkids and siblings, Russell A. (Evon) Baber, Twelve Mile; Carmen S. (Alan) Sharp, Greenfield; and Rita J. Baber, Huntersville, NC.   She is preceded in death by her parents, Harland and Pauline.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 4 – 7 p.m. at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston.  Funeral services will follow on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Randy Smoot officiating.  Burial will follow in Ever Rest Memorial Park cemetery in Logansport.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.murrayweaverfuneralhome.com
