Memorial Day Events & Closures

In honor and recognition of all of our fallen service members, the Congress, by a joint resolution approved May 11, 1950, as amended (36 U.S.C. 116), has requested the President issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to observe each Memorial Day as a day of prayer for permanent peace and designating a period on that day when the people of the United States might unite in prayer.  The Congress, by Public Law 106-579, has also designated 3:00 p.m. local time on that day as a time for all Americans to observe, in their own way, the National Moment of Remembrance.

Governor Eric J. Holcomb is directing flags to be flown at half-staff to commemorate Memorial Day. Flags should be flown at half-staff from sunrise to 12 p.m. on Monday, May 26, to honor those who gave their lives while serving our country. Flags should be hoisted first to peak before being lowered to half-staff. Flags should be returned to full staff on Monday at 12 p.m.

Federal, state and local government offices, including Logansport Utilities, will be closed Monday, May 27 in observance of the holiday.

Trash pickup for Logansport residents will be delayed one day the week of May 27, with a Saturday pickup. See the holiday pickup schedule here.

Cass Area Transit and the Cass County Council on Aging / Downtown Senior Center: There will be no City Bus on Saturday, May 25 and no Cass Area Transit service on Monday, May 27. The office at 115 South 6th Street will also be closed on Memorial Day, so if you need to purchase passes or tokens, or schedule rides, please do so by Friday, May 24.

Cass County’s Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 27 at the Logansport City Building. Lineup will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the public and all military veterans are invited to participate. The parade route will include brief programs at the City Building, Cass County Government Building on 4th Street and the 6th St. Bridge. The parade will then travel to the Civil War monument in Mount Hope Cemetery for a brief program, followed by a brief program at Legion Circle in Mount Hope Cemetery. This year’s Grand Marshall is US Navy WWII Veteran Donald Campbell.

Friends of Memorial Home, a group committed to preserving and revitalizing a cherished local landmark, is hosting an open house event aimed at envisioning the future of the Memorial Home Monday, May 27, 2024, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 706 E Market St, Logansport, IN. | More info

Lewis Cass Alumni Association and Walton American Legion will present a Memorial Day Celebration on Monday, May 27, 2024. Memorial Day Service at the Walton I.O.O.F. Taps Across America National Moment of Remembrance will take place at 3 p.m. Monday. | Details

All Indiana BMV branches will be closed Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday and will resume regularly scheduled business hours on Tuesday, May 28.

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.
