Peggy R. (Sutherland) Stipes

Peggy R. Stipes, 88, of Tipton, formerly of Galveston, Indiana, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 3:24 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Waters of Tipton in Tipton, Indiana. She was born June 15, 1935, in New Castle, Indiana to Rev. J. A. Sutherland and Frances O. (Whited) Sutherland. She married James H. “Hank” Stipes on June 25, 1960, and he preceded her in death on June 4, 1992. At the ripe old age of 81, she married Charles Durbin of Wheatcroft, Kentucky, who survives and whom she loved very much.
Peggy was a homemaker and loved her family dearly. She was always on the go in her little red convertible Mustang and enjoyed Crochet, reading, playing cards and gardening in her spare time. But most of all she loved singing, especially gospel music. She and Charlie often travelled and sang in churches around Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky. She had attended Mt. Zion Free Methodist Church in Kokomo.
Surviving family include her children, Cathy Bryant and partner Matthew Vent , Cindy (Mark) Hahn, Kevin Stipes, Keith (Sabrina) Stipes and daughter in law Jo Stipes. Surviving grandchildren are, Beth Bryant, Triston Bryant, Courtney (Chris) Kaylor, Stacy (Zach) Williams, Allison Stipes, Gabby Stipes, Kolton Stipes, Cody (Eve) Stipes and Olivia Jenkins and many great and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by siblings, Rev. Paul Sutherland and Carolyn Street.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry, son Jamie Stipes, granddaughter, Sophie Stipes, grandsons, Daniel and Dustin Stipes, brothers, Charles and Jim Sutherland and sisters, Marilyn Forkner, Sara Rood, Marie Brown and Eva Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with Pastor Lynn Coleman officiating. A time of visitation will be held prior to services from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow services in the Galveston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to Alzheimer’s Research, 225 N. Michigan Ave. FL17, Chicago, IL 60601.
