Ann (Hughes) Sims, 93, of Logansport and Fort Myers, Florida, went to her heavenly home on Monday, June 10, 2024 from the comfort of her Logansport home with her family by her side.
Born on January 7, 1931 in Indianapolis, Indiana, Ann was the daughter of the late Edwin and Martha (Morris) Hughes. On October 8, 1955, she married Richard (Dick) Sims who passed away April 27, 2024. They made their home in Logansport and enjoyed 68 years of marriage.
She graduated from Shortridge High School, Indianapolis and William Woods College, Missouri. Ann assisted her husband in his crop insurance business, Dick Sims Agency, while raising their children. Ann has been a life-long follower of Christ and lived her life in ministry and service to others. In 1992 Ann received the “Good Neighbor” award and a key to the city. She was very active at Calvary Presbyterian Church where she served in countless volunteer and leadership capacities. She enjoyed sewing and had a special love for flowers. Her beautiful, extensive flower gardens were featured on several garden tours. She was a long-time blood donor and volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Literacy Volunteers, food banks, and tutored children. She was actively involved with Crossroads Prison Ministries for years and the Logansport Women’s Jail Ministry until her death.
Ann and Dick were very physically fit and active, riding thousands of miles on their tandem bicycle, walking and playing golf. They loved to travel and recently experienced an unforgettable family trip and cruise to Alaska in 2023. They were generous benefactors to many causes and projects, including the Sims Family Connector Trail connecting the River Bluff Trail to Huston Park. Ann was also an avid sports fan and could be heard cheering for the Pacers, Colts, and IU basketball. Ann was an inspiration to everyone she encountered as she showed much compassion, encouragement, love, kindness and grace to all, especially “the least of these” (Matt. 25:40).
She loved Jesus and her family fiercely.
Survivors include her children, Debra (Jack) Pitkin of Chattanooga, TN, Sherry (Ken) Hendricks of Grand Rapids, MI, and Stephen (Heide) Sims of Logansport. Grandchildren, Caleb (Samantha) Pitkin of Knoxville, TN, Matthew Hendricks and Lisa (Brandon) Foote of Grand Rapids, MI, Kristen (J.D.) Smith of Carmel, IN, Rachel (David) Forman of Naperville, IL; four great-grandchildren, Lazarus Pitkin, Jules Smith, twins Abigail & Gracelyn Foote; sister-in-law Ginevra Williams of North Port, Florida; several nieces and nephews.
