Claude William “Bill” Ellington, 86, Peru, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024, in the comfort of his home with his family by his side.
Born July 1, 1937, in Lafayette, he was the son of the late James Cornelious Ellington and Mary Jane (Lucas) Ellington.
On March 28, 1965, in Peru, Bill was married to Judith “Judy” (Long) Ellington, who survives.
A 1957 graduate of Logansport High School, Bill was active on the Berries football, track and basketball teams.
Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in Korea in the aftermath of the war. He was proud to share his love of country at his alma mater this past Veterans Day when he was asked to speak.
He retired from Maple Grove Distributing where he had worked for over 25 years.
Bill attended the New Waverly Community church. He was a member of the Cumberland Masonic Lodge in Indianapolis and was a 40-year member of the Eagles Lodge.
An avid model airplane enthusiast, he enjoyed building the airplanes and flying them in contests with his late father-in-law, William “Bill” Long. He was also an expert marksman who loved spending time target shooting.
Surviving with his wife of 59 years, Judy, are his brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Beverly Ellington, of Logansport; as well as several extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Cooper.
A funeral service celebrating Bill’s life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 8 in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Harry Roselle officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by U.S. Army Honors team and the Cass County Honor Guard at the start of the service.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the service in the funeral chapel.
Burial, at a later date, will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico, Indiana.
