Daniel L. Lowe, 76, of East Peoria, Illinois, formerly of Galveston, Indiana, passed away Monday, June 10, 2024, at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born January 9, 1948, in Logansport, Indiana to Clarence and Margaret (McHardie) Lowe. In 1968, Dan met Betty Tevis at the Monticello car wash and asked her out on a date. One year later on August 9, 1969 they were married at the First Baptist Church in Monticello, Indiana. They were married for 54 wonderful years. When his son Aaron was young, he enjoyed coaching him in little league baseball in Monticello. One of Dan’s favorite pastimes was fishing.
Dan was a hard worker, starting at age 14 as a bag boy at Garden City grocery store in Monticello, Indiana. He worked his way up to Produce Manager and later became the store manager of Wallmans’ grocery store in Delphi and Kokomo, Indiana. He purchased the Galveston Mini Mart in 1997 and later added Subway to the store to serve the Galveston Community. He retired from the convenience store business in 2013. Dan and Betty enjoyed spending winters at Buttonwood Bay in Sebring, Florida for many years. Dan’s happiness in life was a by-product of his high character, integrity, strong moral base, and tremendous work ethic. He will be missed.
Surviving family include his beloved wife Betty of East Peoria, Illinois, his son Aaron and wife Marcy Lowe of Mapleton, Illinois, and granddaughters, Abby and Morgan. Dan is preceded in death by his parents and brother Jim Lowe.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 14, 2024, from 4 – 7 p.m. at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15th at the funeral home with burial to follow in Riverview Cemetery in Monticello, Indiana.
