Doris Mabelle (Spangler) Pickrell, 98, of Fishers, passed away July 27, 2024. She was born June 13, 1926, in Deer Creek, Indiana. 

Doris graduated from the Indiana School for the Deaf. In addition to raising her family, Doris worked as a keypunch operator, at a captioned films provider, and a dorm mother at the Indiana School for the Deaf. Her hobbies included making jewelry, crocheting, and ceramics. She was an Indiana Pacers fan and enjoyed watching them on TV.

Doris and Bob were blessed with a wide circle of classmates, friends, and co-workers going back decades who enjoyed Euchre Club, potluck meals, and group vacations.

She is survived by sons Mike (TJ) Pickrell and Larry (Josie) Pickrell; grandchildren, Kelly Pickrell (Kevin) Turner, Todd Pickrell (Jeremy) Hilgert, Daniel (Laura) Manhart, Kelly Manhart (Josh) Ring, Angelina Manhart Hristova, and Jane (Shane) Gosman; great grandchildren, Cooper Turner, Cailynn Turner, Savana Manhart, Lilly Ring, Everett Ring, and Alina Hristova; brother Jerry Spangler, two sisters-in-law Norma Gossett and Sandra Spangler Steely; nieces and nephews Diana (Frank) Heathcote, Debb (Mose) Middleton, Becky (Vince) Crary, Tom (Carol) Spangler, Tim (Dawn) Spangler, Nancy (Jeff) Baker, Lori (Andy) Eubank, Lisa (Jim) Kemp, and Rick Spangler.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Robert “Bob” Pickrell; parents, Charles and Vera (Snider) Spangler; brothers, David Spangler, Daniel Spangler, and Quincie Spangler, sisters-in-law Martha Anne Spangler and Melba Spangler; and brother-in-law Lee Gossett.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 2:30-4:30 PM at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. 

Funeral service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Fisher Funeral Chapel, 1801 Chase Road, Logansport, Indiana, with Pastor Doug Thomas officiating. Graveside services will follow at Hopewell Cemetery, Deer Creek, IN.
