Deloris Loretta Parish, 91, Logansport, Indiana, passed away early Saturday morning, August 17, 2024, in Miller’s Merry Manor.
Born December 26, 1932, in Onward, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Josephine (Vore) Emery.
She was married on April 6, 1958, to Phillip Runk, who preceded in death. On January 10, 1974, in Elko, Nevada, she was married to Garth Parish. He preceded in death on July 21, 2001.
Deloris was a member of Church of the Jesus Christ Church of the Latter-Day Saints where she was active in the Relief Society. She had served as a primary teacher and a Sunday School teacher. Deloris was fascinated with family history, tracing her genealogy back to Pilgrim ancestry and Prussia. For 8 years, she had worked in the Genealogy Library in Burley, Idaho. She was retired from the Mindoka County Schools in Idaho where she had worked as a school cook.
She is survived by her children, Theresa Hare and David (Pat) Shackelford, both of Logansport; one brother, Butch Emery, New Waverly; one sister, Brenda Weese, Logansport; five grandchildren, Tina (George) Dixon, Elizabeth (Sean) Anderson, David Jr. (Andrea) Shackelford, Cory (Starla) Hare, and Travis (Amber) Grandstaff; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Hare, Jayden Grandstaff, Cameron Hare, Noah Grandstaff, Berkley Grandstaff, Taylor (Rachael) Grauel, Devin Shackelford, Coby Mims, and Annalise Dixon; and three great-great-grandchildren, Harper, Averie, and Aubrielle. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, and their families.
In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Daniel James Shackelford; brothers, Keith “Sonny” Emery, Dennis Wayne Emery, Cletus Emery, Sr., Mike Emery and Dickie Razer; one sister, Carolyn Claiborne; and two grandsons, Gregory Hare and Charles “Chuck” Shackelford.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Deloris Parish will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 22, in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Bishop Jack Heywood officiating. Visitation will be held noon until the time of the service.
Interment will follow in the West Cemetery, near Walton.
