Marilyn Louise (Housh) Werst, Logansport, passed away peacefully at home on October 11, 2024, with her loving family by her side.
She was born July 5, 1945, in San Fernando, California, to Marilyn Jeanne and George Manley Housh.
Before moving to Indiana, Marilyn grew up in California – she was a “Valley Girl”.
In 1961, she married Thomas M. Werst, her loving and loyal husband of almost 64 years. He is surviving.
Marilyn was a stay-at-home mom. She was an award-winning artist, a former auctioneer, an awesome cook and a caterer. Marilyn’s artistic style went into all that she did. She made everything from scratch, including her famous bread and rolls, the recipe for which unfortunately was in her head so they will be enjoyed no more.
Marilyn loved critters, great and small, so much so that she couldn’t kill a spider, instead she would put it outside to find another home.
She was very generous and often helped others. Marilyn loved celebrating Easter and Christmas and all the decorating involved. She especially liked setting up her White House ornament tree.
Marilyn opened Boondocker’s after her children left home. She was so talented and creative when she catered and decorated for events, always generating “oohs” and “aahs” and wowing the crowd with her décor and food.
In addition to her husband, Marilyn is survived by seven children, Ricky (Trenda) Werst, Denise (Jeff) Hauser, Tommy (Shawna) Werst, Barbara (Stuart) Hamilton, Johnson Werst, Bill Henry, and Jack (Linna) Prophet.
Grandchildren include Lauressa (Jonathan) Moe, Brandon (Jenn) Werst, Trevor (Kylie) Vestey, Kurtis Vestey, Ann Voelz, Tommy Werst, Becky (Jay) Clifton, Isaac Werst, Zackary Hamilton, Alyssum Hamilton, Dalton Prophet, and Dylan Prophet.
Great grandchildren include Asher Moe, Aleia Moe, Silas Vestey, Judah Vestey, Blake Vestey, Elisa Vestey, Jeffrey Vestey Jr, Kapree Snyder, Jason Clifton, Shania Clifton, and Benjamin Hamilton.
Also surviving are a brother, Dennis Mitchell, and sister, Tina Mitchell.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Marilyn Williams and George Housh; brother, Rickard Housh; grandchildren, Madison Jeanne Werst, Brianna Christmas Werst, and Jeffrey Darren Vestey.
A private family graveside service will be held at Mt Hope Cemetery, Logansport.
A services celebrating Marilyn’s life will begin at 2:00 pm Monday, October 14th, at Christian Life Fellowship Church, 1009 Holiday Drive, Greentown, with son Tommy Werst officiating.
