Don R. Alley

Don R. Alley, 90, of Kokomo, passed away unexpectedly Monday, November 11, 2024, at Community Howard Reginal Hospital in Kokomo. He was born July 1, 1934, in Kokomo to William Clyde and Hazel A. (Booher) Alley. He married Virginia E. Silvey on October 27, 1956, in Kokomo and she preceded him in death on June 21, 2021.
Don retired from the Kokomo Fire Department in Kokomo as Captain with 25 years of service. He served on Kokomo City Council and was a deputy coroner for the Howard County Coroner’s office. After retiring from the Fire Dept. he worked for St. Vincent Hospital in Carmel as a security officer. He also owned and operated Alley’s Wallpaper and Paint in Kokomo and Alley’s M&M ice cream store. Don was a member of Kokomo Evangelical Presbyterian Church and former member of the Elks Lodge #190 BPOE in Kokomo. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He enjoyed socializing with his friends at the Tom Thumb and Martino’s in his spare time.
Surviving family include his two daughters, Julie Lynn Alley Kilcline of Westfield and Sue A. (Mark) Vyzral of Brownsburg, IN. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Meredith (Kyle) Messmer and Molly Vyzral; two great granddaughters, Maeve and Palmer Messmer and one sister, Barbara JoAnn Unger. Don is preceded in death by his parents, wife Virginia, and siblings, Pauline, Nolan, Gladys, Ogden, Norman and Virgil.
The family would like to extend a very special “Thank You” to his caregivers, John, Autumn and Annah who cared for him like family.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 18, 2024, at Kokomo EPC, 2000 W. Jefferson Street with Pastor Joyce Harris officiating. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. prior to services at the church on Monday. A private committal service will take place at a later date.
