Shirley Ann Ulerick, 68, of Kokomo, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 8, 2024, at her home. She was born August 3, 1956, in Kokomo to Homer L. Campbell and Mildred N. (Braden) Campbell Redwine. She married Donald L. Ulerick Jr., February 8, 1973, in Knoxville, TN and he survives. They were happily married for 51 years.
Shirley loved people and would go out of her way to help a stranger or an animal in need. Not only would she cook for them, but she would also take them to doctor’s appointments, run errands to the drug store or grocery store or do anything she could to help others, she truly had a servant’s heart. Her slot car family was also very near and dear to her heart. She spent nearly every weekend with this “special” group of people. Shirley had a soft spot in her heart for animals too. She would find homes for many stray dogs and cats that wondered into her life and would also volunteer the animal shelters in the Peru area.
For the past 22 years, she also became a second mom to her special needs brother. She lovingly took extra good care of Dewayne up until his passing just a few months ago. She was “Mamaw” to her grandkids and would cook for them often. Some of the grandkids would drive a distance just to pull up in front of the house where she would be waiting with a home cooked meal to send home with them.
Surviving family include her husband Don, her two daughters, Sharee (Greg) Wood and Tonya (David) Wininger all of Kokomo. She is also survived by grandchildren, Kinsey (Nick) Swartout, Killian “Bird” (Vance Edwards) Ulerick-Lamb, Gracie (Aaron Castle) Coffey, Alexis (Will) Craig, Megan Weaver and Cole (Zahya “Z” Tarrant) Wininger. Great grandchildren include Peyton Swartout and Liam Coffey. She is also survived by siblings, Danny Campbell, Connie Price, Homer Campbell Jr., and Randall “Scottie” Little and her beloved dogs, Lucy and Thunder. One aunt also survives, Billie-Jean Brumfield. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents and step parents Homer (Helen) Campbell and Mildred (Jewell) Redwine, and brother Dewayne Redwine.
A celebration of her life will be held from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Saturday December 21, 2024, at Aperion Care, 1200 Kittyhawk, Peru, IN 46970. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Kokomo Humane Society, 729 E. Hoffer St. Kokomo, IN. 46902.
