Anthony “Richard” Waychunas, 84, Logansport, Indiana, passed away Saturday morning, February 8, 2025, in the emergency room at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born April 30, 1940, in Melrose Park, Illinois, he was the son of the late Anthony and Ethel Grace (Arjala) Waychunas.
Following high school, Richard joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during peacetime.
His first marriage was to Lucille A. (Grevenites) Waychunas, who preceded him in death January 20, 1972, along with their son, Stephen Waychunas in a tragic snowmobiling accident in McHenry, Illinois. He was later married to Sandra (Sheldon) Waychunas, in Woodstock, Illinois. She preceded him in death in 2007.
Richard was retired from manufacturing and had worked as a die-caster for many years.
An avid baseball fan, he was loyal to the Chicago Cubs his entire life. He loved listening to the radio. Richard had that special charisma that people were naturally drawn to – and he loved to talk, so he always enjoyed an audience. He was very smart and his caring, kind temperment made him a wonderful father and grandfather.
Surviving are his daughters, Kim Banter, Kelly (Russ) Campbell, Tracy Ganske, and Rae Waychunas; his grandchildren, who he loved beyond measure, Niki Ramsey, Karis Sabon, Falen (Chris) Murray, Athena Ross, Chase (Elizabeth) Ganske, Taylor (Jusin) Schlingof, and Brandon Campbell; and fifteen additional blessings in his life came in the form of great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, his wives, and his son, Stephen, Richard was met in Heaven by two grandsons, David and Derek Tousignant.
Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in McHenry, Illinois.
