Patricia Ann Fisher, 75, Fairfax, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at home. She was recovering from hospitalization for influenza.
Born May 25, 1949, in New Castle, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late John Wakeland and Mary Elizabeth (Kesling) Fisher.
A 1967 graduate of Logansport High School, Pat (Peggy) stayed connected with her classmates and loved attending class reunions. She was a 1971 graduate of Ball State University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech and Journalism. Pat later earned her Master of Science in Speech, also at Ball State University.
In 2009, Pat retired from the Twin Lakes School Corporation after 37 years of teaching. She began her career in education at Meadowlawn Elementary School and then Roosevelt Middle School, both in Monticello, IN. She finished her career at Twin Lakes High School as an English and Journalism teacher where she served as the yearbook and school newspaper advisor, and speech coach. She also taught photography. Following her retirement, she taught Communications at Ivy Tech Community College in Lafayette, Indiana.
In 2005, she returned to her roots in funeral service, having grown up living above her parent’s funeral home in Logansport. She trained with Rev. Doug Manning’s Insight program to become a certified funeral celebrant. She enjoyed working with her brother, J.D., and her nephews at Fisher Funeral Chapel in Lafayette and Logansport, as the officiant. When she moved to Fairfax, Virginia, in 2014, she became a celebrant at Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon, Virginia.
Pat (Peggy) grew up in the Wheatland Avenue United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Royal Center Order of Eastern Star and a life member of Psi Iota Xi. She also belonged to the Retired Teachers Association. Pat (Peggy) loved yoga and traveled to many places on yoga retreats. She had a flair for decorating and loved interior design. Her home reflected that talent. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. They were her world. Always a teacher, she asked that the most important lesson she ever taught be remembered as this, “Family is where life begins and love never ends.”
She was very proud of her children and is survived by her daughter, Nicole Stark, Chicago, IL an interior designer who owns Loop Studio in Chicago; her son Jarrett Stark, who works for the U.S. Patent Office and his wife, Melissa, of Fairfax, VA. Her precious grandchildren are Kiera, Caiden and Cian Stark, and Max and Olivia Aral. She is also survived by her uncle, Willis Kesling, Royal Center, IN; her sister-in-law, Dawn Fisher; niece, Sarah (Curtis) Wilson; nephews, Jonathan (Nikki) Fisher, Jacob Fisher (Kim May), and Chase (Macie) Fisher; her five great-nieces, Gracelynn, Reilly, and Lucy Fisher, and Anniston and Emilia Wilson; a great-nephew, Jack Fisher; and one on-the-way; and her beloved canine companion, Indy. Pat will be missed by several dear cousins as well as many amazing friends, all of whom she dearly loved.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John David “JD” Fisher; nephew, Daniel Fisher; and uncles, Bobby, Dick, Irvin, Estell and Norman Kesling, and Forrest Fisher, as well as her beloved dogs, Addie, Sissy, Josie and Dolly.
