Donald D. “Don” Wilfong, age 73, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2025, in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
It is with sadness and a touch of disbelief that we share the passing of Donald D. Wilfong. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Cathy Wilfong and Katrina “Teenie” McFall; nephew, Shane Michaels; niece, Megan Jeroski; and the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Gerri, with whom he built a home and family.
Don was the son of Clyde “Bud” Wilfong and Agnes Marie Satterfield Wilfong.
He was a proud father to Aries, Michael, and Shea – his greatest accomplishments by far. He also had eight grandchildren, Brandon, Austin, Tyler, Simon, Alyssa, Avery, Kamryn and Levi, who brought him endless pride and happiness. He also lucked out by having two great sons-in law (Rob and Brad) and one amazing daughter- in-law, Ashley, all of whom loved him very much.
Affectionately known to his children as “Deaner”, and with somewhat less dignity but a lot more giggles, “Dingleberry” to his grandkids, he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a garage full of “perfectly good” stuff.
He was the kind of dad and grandpa who was always present—ready to roll on the floor, play outside, or dance like a ballerina if that’s what the grandkids demanded. He perfected the art of the “quick nap” during family chaos.
A lover of animals—especially his German Shepherds—Don also loved cold beer, loud music, a well-kept, stick-free lawn. He collected coins, tools, and any object labeled “free”. What others called junk, he called inventory and proudly took it home in his truck.
Don coached the Logansport Storm soccer team to many championships and never missed a chance to brag about the glory days.
Rest easy, “Deaner”. The sticks are finally someone else’s problem.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18th, at Kroeger-Crain Funeral Home, with Rev. Ken Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, spend some time with loved ones, plant a tree, or please consider a generous donation to the local humane society. Don would love knowing that he’s still helping the animals.
