
Pedestrian struck on US 24 in Cass County

On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at approximately 7:37 p.m., Cass County Central Dispatch received a call of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on US 24 east of County Road 1100 West. Several deputies responded to the crash along with the Georgetown Fire Department, Cass County Fire District 1, Cass County Emergency Medical Services, White County Sheriff’s Office, Logansport Police Department and Indiana State Police.
Preliminary investigation by Deputy Bryce Hamilton found that an elderly female was walking westbound on US 24 and was struck by a westbound minivan.
The pedestrian, 83-year-old Marcia Smith of Lake Cicott, attempted to cross southbound on US 24 when a westbound Chrysler Town and Country minivan, driven by 80-year-old Thomas Murray of Monticello, struck her.
Marcia Smith received life-threatening injuries and was transported from the scene via a medical helicopter to Parkview Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
The driver was not injured in the crash.
US 24 was closed for approximately two and a half hours for crash investigation and reconstruction.
Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
The driver refused medical treatment at the scene.
