Robert William Barnes, 81, of Logansport, passed away unexpectedly Monday, April 7, 2025, in the emergency room at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born August 5, 1943, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Donald Barnes and Margaret (Newman) Barnes Hetherington.

On August 15, 1970, in Peru, he was married to Mary Catherine ( Newgent) Barnes, who survives.

Bob was graduate of Logansport High School. He started his career at General Tire, retiring as a supervisor at Trelleborg.

A Past Master of Logansport’s Tipton Lodge, No. 33, Free & Accepted Masons, Bob enjoyed being an active part of the Masonic fraternal brotherhood. His hobbies included metal detecting and dredging for gold. He thoroughly enjoyed tinkering in the garage with his grandsons as they worked on the old Ford Mustang. He was a natural when it came to mechanics.

Surviving with his wife of nearly 55 years, Mary Barnes, are children, Kelly (Brian) Baber, Bobbi (Shawn) Benish, and Charles (Mary) Lasitter; grandchildren, Gatlin Benish, Ely Benish, Chance Baber, and James and Jared Sims; and family Nick and Cindy Townsend.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by brothers. Donald Barnes, Devon Barnes, and James Barnes.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13 in Fisher Funeral Chapel

Members of Tipton Masonic Ledge will conduct rites at 3 p.m. Sunday. The funeral service, officiated by Kelly Spencer, will follow.

Burial, at a later date, will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
