Frieda M. Wenger, 95, of Kokomo, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born May 10, 1929, in Middletown, Ohio, to the late Orville and Myrtle (Allen) Sumpter.
On October 23, 1947, in Kokomo, Indiana, she was married to Joseph W. Wenger, who preceded her in death on December 24, 2009.
Frieda was a graduate of Kokomo High School. She worked for Delco Electronics, Armstrong Landon, and Elder-Beerman.
She had a true gift in the kitchen, creating beautifully decorated cakes that made every birthday even more memorable. As a devoted mother and matriarch, she nurtured with kindness for her family in their times of need, always offering comfort and support. She found joy in her garden, nurturing to her flowers and tending to her yard. She had a deep and enduring love for every dog she cared for throughout her life. Her love for her pets created a home filled with wagging tails and unconditional love.
Frieda is survived by her son Greg (Jacquelyn) Wenger, daughters, Connie (Steve) Tilley and Susan (Mike) Durham; grandchildren, Erica (Paul) Yerkes, Olivia Wenger, Amy (Marcus) Cobbins, Joe (Kamie) Tilley, and Mike (Julie Lytle) Durham; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Joe Sumpter and Jim Sumpter; sister, Hazel (John) Cherry; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Morrison and June Ann (Clarke) Imbler; brother-in-law, Gene (Carol) Wenger; granddaughter, Holly Durham; grandson, Tony Wenger; mother-in-law, Volena (Joe) Wenger; and father-in-law, Joseph R. Wenger.
Burial will follow at Galveston Cemetery.
