Shirley R Berkshire, 81, of Logansport, Indiana, passed quietly at home Wednesday afternoon, May 14, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Born and raised in Cass County Shirley lived a life defined by love, laughter and unwavering devotion to her family. On December 28, 1943, she was born to late Ray and Mildred (McMillan) Risley.
Shirley was married to the love of her life, James Russell Berkshire, for 33 wonderful years until his passing in 1995. Together, they raised a close-knit family that became the center of Shirley’s world.
Shirley was 1961 graduate of Royal Center High School.
For over 15 years, she worked as a scale operator at Engineering Aggregates.
Shirley found joy in the simple things: quiet country drives, a good book or puzzle, and a good scoop of ice cream. She relished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. A steadfast presence in their lives, she never missed an event, big or small, cheering each accomplishment with pride and love.
Known for her sharp wit and playful heart, Shirley delighted in a good prank and always had a smile ready for friends and strangers alike. Her laughter was contagious and her love was a constant gift to those around her.
Her life was a testament to the strength of love, the power of family, and the joy found in everyday moments.
She is survived by her three children, Scott (Suzie) Berkshire, James R (Jana) Berkshire, and Carrie (Todd) Reiff; two sisters, Sharon Hendryx, and Sally Dexter; grandchildren, Levi Berkshire, Jacob (Cynthia) Berkshire, Bailey Graham, Jordan (Garrett) Hatley, Alec (Cait) Hettinger, Katie Reiff, and Krista Reiff; her precious great-grandchildren, Leland Berkshire, Quincy Allen, Emerson Reiff, Crew Hettinger, Arya Hettinger, and Harlow Berkshire; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ray Risley.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 16 in Fisher Funeral Chapel.
A funeral service celebrating Shirley’s life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 17, in the funeral chapel with an additional visitation one hour prior to the funeral.
Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and the Alzheimer’s Association.
